Anthropic has introduced Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1, its latest generation of AI models designed for demanding tasks including coding, research, long-running projects and professional knowledge work.
But there’s something unusual about this release.
Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 aren’t simply two models where one is faster and the other is smarter. According to Anthropic, they are based on the same underlying model but operate with different levels of safeguards.
For most people, Fable 5.1 is the version that matters. Mythos 5.1 is being kept behind restricted access for specialised work in areas such as cybersecurity and life sciences.

The safeguards are becoming more precise
