Australians planning to upgrade to Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro won’t have long to decide where to buy it.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max open in Australia at 10pm AEST on Saturday, September 12, before the phones officially arrive on Friday, September 18.
And while buying directly from Apple is the simplest option, plenty of Australians will instead be looking at Telstra, Optus and Vodafone — particularly anyone wanting to spread the cost of a phone that now starts above $2,000.
iPhone 18 Pro Australian pricing
Apple has priced the iPhone 18 Pro from A$2,099, while the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at A$2,299.
Both begin with 256GB of storage and are also available in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB configurations. Apple is also introducing Afterpay Pay Monthly in Australia, giving eligible customers buying through Apple another way to spread the cost.
Telstra iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders
Telstra has confirmed it will offer both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with pre-orders opening at 10pm AEST on September 12 and availability from September 18.
For iPhone buyers, Telstra’s attraction is likely to remain its network footprint and device repayment options. But shoppers should pay close attention to the total cost over the repayment period, rather than simply comparing the monthly handset figure.
Optus iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders
Optus has also confirmed that it will carry the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with pre-orders opening September 12 and availability from September 18.
Optus has indicated deals will be available for the new models, making it worth watching closely when orders open. The important comparison will be the final cost of the phone plus the required mobile service.
What about Vodafone?
Vodafone is another carrier worth watching before committing to a pre-order. The telco offers smartphones through device repayments alongside its mobile plans and has historically competed aggressively around major flagship launches.
At the time of publication, however, The Tech Boom has not found a Vodafone Australia iPhone 18 Pro launch offer that we can independently verify. Rather than speculate about a discount that could change before orders open, we’ll update this guide when Vodafone publishes its confirmed iPhone 18 Pro pricing and promotion.
Telstra vs Optus vs Vodafone: which should you choose?
There may not be one winner for everybody. Telstra could make the most sense if network coverage is your priority. Optus is one to watch for launch promotions when its full iPhone 18 deals go live. Vodafone could become the value option if it launches an aggressive handset or plan promotion.
And there’s another competitor: Apple itself. With additional financing options available directly from Apple, buyers who don’t want their handset tied to a carrier plan have another way of spreading the cost.
Don’t judge an iPhone deal by the monthly price
With a $2,099-plus smartphone, a surprisingly low monthly handset payment can look attractive until the required mobile plan, repayment period and conditions are included.
Before ordering, compare the total handset cost, monthly mobile plan, repayment period, trade-in value, promotional credits, early-exit conditions and network coverage where you actually live and work.
A large advertised discount isn’t necessarily a saving if obtaining it requires paying significantly more for your mobile service over several years.
Should you pre-order immediately?
If you want a particular storage capacity or finish, ordering early may make sense. But buyers primarily interested in getting the best deal may want to wait until Telstra, Optus and Vodafone have all published their complete launch promotions and compare the total cost.
