But while benchmark scores and technical specifications will attract plenty of attention, there is a much simpler question for most people:

OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra is its first model to reach the Critical level for cybersecurity capability under the company’s Preparedness Framework.
According to OpenAI’s assessment, with appropriate tools and access, Astra is capable of finding previously unknown security vulnerabilities and developing methods that could exploit vulnerabilities in well-protected systems.
That capability has obvious legitimate uses.

Is GPT-6 Astra available in ChatGPT?
Not for everyone immediately.
OpenAI initially launched Astra to a limited group of organisations.
The company says access is expected to expand to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, as well as developers through the OpenAI API.
So if you open ChatGPT and don’t see GPT-6 Astra yet, that doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong with your account.
The rollout is happening gradually.
What does GPT-6 Astra mean for regular ChatGPT users?
For most people, benchmark results aren’t going to determine whether Astra matters.
The real test will be whether it makes everyday tasks easier.
There are several areas where the difference could become noticeable.
Less prompting, more doing

Astra demonstrates increasingly sophisticated abilities across several areas, but there is no universally accepted test that determines when an AI system officially becomes artificial general intelligence.
Impressive benchmark results don’t settle that debate.
What is clearer is that AI systems are becoming capable of handling a wider variety of tasks with greater autonomy.
Whether we eventually call that AGI may matter less to everyday users than what these systems can actually accomplish.
Should you be excited or concerned?
Probably a little of both.
There is plenty to be excited about.
AI that can help with complicated computer tasks, research, software, documents and repetitive administrative work could save people considerable time.
But increasing capability also increases responsibility.
The cybersecurity findings surrounding Astra are a good example. An AI capable of discovering serious vulnerabilities could be an extraordinary tool for defenders while simultaneously creating new risks if safeguards fail.
The important conversation therefore isn’t simply about making AI more powerful.
It’s about whether safety, security and oversight can improve quickly enough alongside that power.
