Nintendo has given Switch 2 owners a much clearer picture of what comes next — and this was more than a parade of trailers.
The September 10 Nintendo Direct brought new first-party games, major third-party ports, release dates and several games available immediately. The headline reveals include Metroid Ravenous, Kirby and the World Beyond, Persona 6, Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Monster Hunter Wilds.
Rather than listing every few-second appearance from the presentation, here are the announcements most likely to matter to Switch 2 players.
Metroid Ravenous gives Samus a new 2D adventure
Nintendo revealed Metroid Ravenous, an all-new 2D Metroid adventure built for Nintendo Switch 2. Samus returns on January 28, 2027, with standard and special editions planned and a new amiibo collection accompanying the launch.
That makes Ravenous one of the clearest signs yet that Nintendo intends to keep major first-party franchises moving alongside Switch 2’s growing catalogue of ports and remasters.
Kirby is heading into another big 3D world
Kirby and the World Beyond is a new 3D adventure coming exclusively to Switch 2 in 2027. Nintendo describes an expansive world that players can freely explore while using Kirby’s Copy Abilities not just in combat, but for traversal.
The timing is significant too: 2027 marks Kirby’s 35th anniversary.
Persona 6 is coming to Switch 2
Atlus’ Persona 6 was confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2, alongside Persona 4 Revival. For Nintendo, Persona 6 is arguably as important as some of its own reveals: a major new RPG arriving on the platform helps reinforce Switch 2 as a system where players no longer have to assume the biggest third-party games will skip Nintendo hardware.
Persona 4 Revival has a May 20, 2027 release date. Nintendo has not yet given Persona 6 a firm launch date.
Monster Hunter Wilds makes the jump
Capcom is bringing Monster Hunter Wilds to Switch 2 on December 4. Nintendo says the release includes existing Title Update content and supports full cross-platform multiplayer.
That is a particularly useful test of the new console. Switch 2’s value proposition increasingly depends on whether demanding current-generation games can arrive without the compromises that often defined third-party releases on the original Switch.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation joins a strong third-party lineup
Final Fantasy VII Revelation was among the Direct’s major third-party highlights, alongside Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, three Resident Evil releases and Mega Man: Dual Override.
The Resident Evil wave arrives quickly: Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition are scheduled digitally for October 16.
There are things to play today, too
Nintendo avoided making the presentation entirely about 2027. Star Fox Adventures is joining the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library for Switch Online + Expansion Pack members, while titles and demos including Crisis Core –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion, MECCHA CHAMELEON and a Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World demo were announced for immediate availability.
Mario Kart World is also receiving a free update with 10 classic Super Mario Kart courses playable as standalone VS races, two additional Knockout Tour routes and a spectator mode for multiplayer.
Why this Direct matters more than the game count
The bigger story is the shape of Switch 2’s library. Nintendo is combining recognisable first-party franchises with substantially stronger third-party support. Metroid and Kirby give the console exclusive Nintendo experiences, while Persona, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil and Tomb Raider make the platform harder to dismiss as a Nintendo-only machine.
For players deciding whether to buy a Switch 2, that breadth matters more than the raw number of announcements. The next several months now have a clearer mix of exclusives, established franchises and games that would once have been far less certain to appear on Nintendo hardware.
